Detailed 20 Week Anomaly Scan
A detailed anomaly scan is as the name suggests a systematic examination of the baby using ultrasound, looking for any differences in the baby. This includes looking at the brain, face, lips, neck, heart, chest, kidneys, bladder, stomach, liver, limbs, hands, feet, spine and the insertion of the umbilical cord into the baby’s abdomen. This scan is performed at 20 – 22 weeks of the pregnancy.
It is important to remember that most scans are normal. The ultrasound is fully discussed with you and in the event of recommendations for follow up care, the options that are available so that you can make informed choices.
You will receive
- a CD and black and white (thermal) pictures of your baby
- a written report.
We will also ask if you would like a copy of the report sent to your GP and will liaise with the NHS hospital whose care you are under where necessary.
Wellbeing scans can be performed at anytime in the pregnancy and can be combined with a 3D / 4D scan later in the pregnancy which gives you a unique opportunity to see your unborn baby moving in the womb.
