Ultrasound scanning is used to examine the ovaries and uterus (womb). Ultrasound scanning is not dangerous and has no side effects.
The ultrasound scan is performed by our fertility specialist:
- Checking that the uterus is normal
- The endometrial thickness
- Checking the ovaries
The ultrasound scan is performed transvaginally by inserting an ultrasound probe into the vagina, the probe is covered with a condom and gel. The test is usually painless, although some women may have mild discomfort from the pressure of the probe. Only a small part of the probe is placed into the vagina.
