Sadly many pregnancies end in early miscarriage, about one in four. It is also not something that is commonly discussed. If you have suffered the trauma of a previous pregnancy loss, you may wish to see a consultant specialist in Maternal & Fetal Medicine.

This service provides follow-up and support for women who have experienced:

• One or more first trimester miscarriages
• Second trimester miscarriages
• Third trimester pregnancy loss
• Fetal anomaly

There may be specific investigations required to assess risks for subsequent pregnancies. Our specialists will:

• Carry out relevant investigations to identify any causes of pregnancy loss
• Suggest any treatment which might be beneficial in a subsequent pregnancy
• Make an individualised plan of care, treatment and support for a subsequent pregnancy

Please note some or all of these tests may be available via your GP or covered by private medical insurance (individual’s levels of cover does vary, please check with your provider).

You will receive a written report following your consultation and a further report when the results of any blood tests are received. We can arrange a follow up consultation with your consultant to discuss these.
